Impact
In agreement with the SRIA roadmap, by building contributions in the scientific, societal and economic impact areas, the project is addressing the following high-level expected outcomes:
-
This involves a full technology value chain of complementary skills, collaboratively challenged to develop a novel open digital platform (ODP) enabling the accelerated development of future Hybrid Electric Regional Aircraft with novel software, models and methods capable of supporting hybrid electric regional aircraft complexity.
-
Develop and integrate a set of digital technologies and capabilities augmenting European industry capabilities, more specifically regarding the dimensions of here
Faster design, development and certification of disruptive aircraft technologies
Facilitated/accelerated collaboration leveraging innovation across the aeronautics value chain with all stakeholders
Stronger collaboration throughout Europe
-
Aircraft accelerated digitalized design could only be achievable thanks to the development of a new range of technological expertise, more specifically in the field of data management, data analytics, models transformations
across disciplines, automation of extensive processes, and ensuring openness without sacrificing security.
Complementarily, these digital competencies must be cross-fertilised with the novel aeronautic technology ambitions, creating a brand-new kind of expertise combining digital, data and all the aeronautic engineering disciplines.
-
The project does not have a direct impact in GHG emission reduction - however, it is offered as a tool to boost the design and implementation process of a future Regional Hybrid Electric Aircraft and so contributing to reach its expected target of 50 % GHG emission reduction.
-
One of the key factors to accelerate the impact of the technologies and solutions is to involve certification elements from the beginning of the development. In the recent past, most of the resources were oriented to the validation of the technologies, following a sequential TRL steps maturation. Nowadays, the world is changing very fast and the society must adapt, react and anticipate much faster than ever. For increasing the potential success of the disruptive technologies defined in ODE4HERA, it is mandatory to involve some preliminary certification aspects and try to anticipate the answers to the following questions:
Certifiability
Affordable certification
Breakthrough of the certification standards
-
The world is changing, triggered by different root causes: the pandemic and other humanitarian crises, geopolitics instability, the environmental agenda, disruptive technologies (digitalisation) and new social paradigms and challenges. These trends are transforming the way we live, our concerns, our preferences, our choices, our habits, the way we work, the way we consume products and services, and the way we communicate. The aircraft industry must adapt to the new trends, obliged to offer new transport services, more sustainable products at low prices and aligned with the changing regulations. The customers are more aware of the environmental impact of their economic choices, thanks to the environment agenda. The Clean Aviation programme and the solutions to be provided by Hybrid Electric Regional Aircraft try to offer solutions that can satisfy these new social environmental expectations.
-
ODE4HERA project offers innovative open digital platform solution to support the development of new aircraft concepts in the regional segment, but exploitable to different mobility solutions that can broaden the market expectations for this type of digital methods and tools, and so requiring:
More highly qualified people, requiring academia, universities, to support the education;
More demand on novel and innovative design tools and new digital solutions;
More business opportunities requiring a more dynamic economic ecosystem supported by academia and research centres, pulled by the big industrial leaders.
